‘UFC on FUEL TV: Nogueira vs. Werdum’ Live Results and Play-by-Play

“UFC on FUEL TV: Nogueira vs. Werdum” took place Saturday inside Ginasio Paulo Sarasate in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. 

A heavyweight scrap between Fabricio Werdum (pictured) and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira headlined the freebie fight card.

“The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2″ welterweight finalists Leonardo Santos and William Patolino battled for a six-figure UFC contract in the co-main event.

Antonio Braga Neto Defeats Anthony Smith via Submission (Kneebar) at 1:52 in the 1stRound

1stRound: They both come out firing early. Smith lands a knee to the midsection. Neto counters with a vicious leg kick and follows up with a takedown. He easily takes Smith’s back. Smith reverses for a brief moment, but Neto locks in a knee bar. Smith is forced to cry uncle.

Caio Magalhaes Defeats Karlos Vemola via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 2:49 in the 2ndRound

1stRound: Magalhaes immediately goes for a takedown, though gets stuffed. Magalhaes tries a guillotine choke. Vemola escapes and slams him to the ground. Vemola is relentless with his ground-and-pound. Magalhaes attempts an armbar from off his back to no avail. Vemola resumes his assault. Magalhaes finally gets free and tries another unsuccessful guillotine. Magalhaes goes for two more guillotines. Vemola, 10-9.

2ndRound: Magalhaes secures a takedown. He quickly transitions to Vemola’s back. Magalhaes is smothering him on the canvas. He slaps on a rear-naked choke. That’s all she wrote. What a comeback!

Rodrigo Damm Defeats Mizuto Hirota via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

1stRound: Damm tags him with a heavy right hand. He follows up with a thunderous leg kick. Hirota clipped him with something and charges ahead. Damm has recovered and gets a takedown. Good back-and-forth round. Tight one to score. Damm, 10-9.

2ndRound: Damm continues to beat him to the punch. Hirota finally manages to close to distance and scores with a one-two combination. He follows up with a heavy leg kick. Another close round to score. Hirota, 10-9.

3rdRound: Damm’s single-leg takedown attempt gets stuffed. This fight is up for grabs with two minutes remaining. Loud leg kick from Damm. Damm suplexes his opponent, that may have sealed the deal. Damm, 10-9, and likely won, 29-28.

Ildemar Alcantara Defeats Leandro Silva via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

1stRound: Alcantara exploiting his reach advantage early. He nails Silva with a knee to the stomach. Alcantara slips on a kick and Silva dives on top of him. Alcantara gets to his feet. He puts Silva on his back. Alcantara is bleeding below his right eye. Alcantara, 10-9.

2ndRound: Silva opening up with his hands. Alcantara thwarts a takedown attempt. Crowd getting antsy with the lack of action. Alcantara trying to keep him off balance by switching stances. His pace has slowed quite a bit. Tight one to score. Alcantara, 10-9.

3rdRound: Crowd not too pleased with this scrap and they’re letting the fighters know. Alcantara lands a leg kick. Alcantara trips him to the mat. Silva lands an illegal upkick to the face and time is momentarily called. They are back to their feet. Alcantara gets one final takedown for good measure. Alcantara, 10-9, and likely ran the table, 30-27.

Felipe Arantes Defeats Godofredo Pepey via TKO (Strikes) at 3:32 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Pepey jumps on his back, but gets tossed of and is working off his back. Arantes working good GnP. Pepey reverses and is in full mount. Arantes easily sweeps and is giving him the business with countless elbows. Game. Set. Match, Arantes.

Derek Brunson vs. Ronny Markes (CANCELED)

Rafael Assuncao Defeats Vaughan Lee via Submission (Armbar) at 1:51 in the 2ndRound

1stRound: Assuncao is on the attack early. He can’t secure a single-leg takedown. Lee nails him with a left hook. Assuncao gets a body lock and momentarily trips him to the ground. Assuncao picks him up and slams Lee to the mat. Assuncao is all over him. Assuncao, 10-9.

2ndRound: Assuncao shoots in, but eats a right hand that has caused his left eye to bleed heavily. He drags Lee to the canvas and lands in full-mount. Assuncao tries an armbar. After a brief scramble on the mat, Lee is forced to tap.

Rony Jason Defeats Mike Wilkinson via Technical Submission (Triangle Choke) at 1:24 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Wilkinson secures a takedown, but gets caught in a triangle choke on the way down. Jason is unleashing some short elbows to Wilkinson’s head to strengthen his position. It’s getting tighter. Wilkinson opts against tapping and is put to sleep instead.

Daniel Sarafian Defeats Eddie Mendez via Submission (Arm Triangle Choke) at 2:20 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Mendez has him clinched against the cage. Sarafian trips him to the mat and lands on top. He advances to half guard. He moves to full mount and slaps on an arm triangle choke. Mendez calls it quits.

Erick Silva Defeats Jason High via Submission (Armbar) at 1:11 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Silva stuffs a takedown and takes High’s back. He’s going for an armbar. He could be transitioning to a triangle choke. High is forced to tap out, likely because of armbar.

Thiago Silva Defeats Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante via KO (Punches) at 4:29 in the 1stRound 

1stRound: They are flinging leather early, nothing significant landing for either fighter, though. Cavalcante scoring with some combos. Silva lands a big right. Cavalcante clocks him with a spinning elbow. Silva attacking the body now. Cavalcante has slowed significantly, while Silva is turning up the heat. He is unloading bombs. Silva drops him with a right uppercut. A couple shots on the canvas. Game over.

Leonardo Santos Defeats William Patolino via Submission (Arm Triangle Choke) at 4:43 in the 2ndRound (Santos wins TUF Brazil 2 welterweight tournament)

1stRound: They are clinching against the cage. Santos scores with a right, but eats a one-two combo in return. Patolino secures a takedown. Patolino is methodical with his ground attack. Santos gets to his feet, but they end up on the ground again after a scramble. Patolino, 10-9.

2ndRound: Santos is starting to score with his hands. Patolino easily takes him down. The crowd is booing. They get to their feet. Santos drags him to the ground, but Patolino grabs the fence and time is called. Referee Mark Goddard issued a warning. Santos takes him down and lands in full mount. Patolino appears gassed. Santos locks in an arm triangle but only has 30 ticks to finish it. He does. Patolino cries uncle.

Fabricio Werdum Defeats Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira via Verbal Submission (Armbar) at 2:41 in the 2ndRound

1stRound: Werdum tosses him to the mat and ends up on top after a wild scramble. Nogueira trying catch a leg. They are back to their feet. Nogueira is pressing the action and is pressing him against the fence. Nogueira lands a short elbow. Nogueira, 10-9.

2ndRound: Big right hand by Werdum. Nogueira drops for a guillotine attempt, but Werdum easily escapes and is now in top position. Werdum takes his back and attempts an armbar. The fight is called. I didn’t see a tap, maybe it was verbal.
