Jon Fitch’s post-UFC career got off to a quiet start on Friday night at WSOF 3, as in he was soundly put to sleep by Josh Burkman (pictured) with a guillotine choke.
I’m not quite sure what’s more surprising, the fact that Burkman served up the upset special, that it only took him 41 seconds to choke Fitch unconscious or that Steve Mazzagatti forgot he was in the middle of refereeing a fight.
Forget I asked. Mazzagatti acting completely dumbfounded takes the cake. What would have happened if Burkman didn’t voluntarily release the hold when Fitch went limp?
Oh, Mazz. How you still get licensed to referee professional MMA bouts is beyond me…
On a side note, now that Fitch and Burkman each hold a submission victory over the other, Fitch called for a rubber match for the inaugural WSOF welterweight title after the loss.
Yeah, about that…
WSOF took place inside The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
