The revolving door that has become Jon Fitch’s UFC 107 opponent has taken yet another spin as Mike Pierce will be the third opponent assigned to face Fitch on the December 12th fight card. Word broke over the weekend about the potential welterweight scrap, and it was confirmed by the organization today.
Fitch was originally slated to face Ricardo Almeida inside the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee, however Almeida suffered a knee injury last week and was forced to pull out. The UFC immediately filled the spot by arranging a rematch between Thiago Alves and Fitch, only to have the Brazilian tear the PCL in his knee a couple days after accepting the bout.
Speaking of swapping opponents, Pierce was scheduled to face Fitch’s American Kickboxing Academy teammate, Josh Koscheck, at the yet-to-be unannounced “UFC Fight Night 20” in January. However, Kos was promoted to meet Anthony Johnson on the main card at UFC 106 later this month.
For those that don’t know, Pierce holds a solid 10-1 pro record and upset MMA veteran Brock Larson at “UFC Fight Night 19” in his Octagon debut this past September. The W was Pierce’s sixth straight.
Here are the fighters rumored to be participating in the December 12th show:
