Mike Chiappetta of NBCSports.com recently wrote an intriguing article that suggests current UFC welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre, may not be ready to fight BJ Penn on the UFC’s New Year’s Eve event in Las Vegas. According to the article, St-Pierre has said that the timing for a December showdown with Penn may not be right for him.
The UFC has already made the Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir heavyweight title match the main event. If the UFC were able to book the proposed BJ Penn vs. Georges St-Pierre fight, then it would no doubt be the biggest UFC event of the year.
St-Pierre is coming off of a dominating victory over Jon Fitch at UFC 87: Seek and Destroy. The problem though is that it took all five rounds for St-Pierre to secure the win.
Chiappetta goes on to say that if GSP isn’t ready, a rumored bout between Chuck Liddell vs. Anderson Silva could make its rounds. Unfortunately, that fight probably won’t happen since both Liddell and Silva would be fighting in September and October respectively.
