After ProElite’s announcement that they were going to cancel their September 20th event in Albuquerque, New Mexico, many MMA experts began to get the feeling of deja vu all over again. ProElite CEO, Chuck Champion, quickly worked the PR machine and was quoted as saying, “we look at October as a critical step in our development.”
October 4th happens to be EliteXC’s third and final “Saturday Night Fights” on CBS. What happens after that depends on what happens during the event itself.
Kimbo Slice is already penciled in as the headliner, which will automatically make it a higher rated event than the promotions’ second attempt last month.
ProElite is already looking into booking an aging, but willing Ken Shamrock, to face Slice in the main event. Shamrock is coming off of five consecutive losses, but ProElite is hoping that his name being paired up with Slice will be enough to push fans to tune in.
For now, ProElite is trying to fend off the talk of suffering the same fate as the IFL, but October 4th will be a make or break event for them, regardless of what they say.
