UFC Thiago Alves

On Wednesday afternoon, it was announced an undisclosed injury has forced Thiago Alves (pictured) out of his August 17 scrap against Matt Brown. Mike Pyle has agreed to serve as substitute and battle Brown at “UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen.”

Pyle has rattled off four consecutive victories. The 37-year-old was last seen taking a split decision win over Rick Story at UFC 160.

Brown is perfect through his past five fights. The welterweight TKO’d Jordan Mein in April.

Alves has been out of action since getting upset by Martin Kampmann in March 2012. The “Pitbull” was then sidelined after undergoing surgery for a torn pectoral muscle.

No word on when Alves will return to action.

Brown and Alves were originally slated to meet in the night’s main card. It is believed the new matchup will retain the same slot in the lineup.

TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts hosts the festivities.
