On this fine Fourth of July evening, the Ultimate Fighting Championship decided to announce a thrilling lightweight scrap between Gilbert Melendez (pictured) and Diego Sanchez to UFC 166.
Melendez will be looking to score his first big league win after losing to reigning 155-pound UFC champion Benson Henderson in his debut. The former Strikeforce champ had rattled off seven straight wins before entering the Octagon.
Sanchez took a split decision victory over Takanori Gomi in March. “The Dream” has won three of his past four fights.
In addition, a welterweight shootout between Nate Marquardt and Hector Lombard was also added to the lineup.
Here is the card’s current roster:
Hector Lombard vs. Nate Marquardt
Diego Sanchez vs. Gilbert Melendez
Junior dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez (UFC heavyweight champion)
