Roy Jones Jr. waits for no man, not even “The Spider.” Now that former UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva has his hands full trying to get his strap back from Chris Weidman, RJJ appears to have set his sights on Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (pictured).

According to MMAJunkie, Bellator MMA, Rampage’s brand spanking new employer, is trying to arrange a boxing match between the former UFC light heavyweight champ and RJJ.

The bout is expected to take place on pay-per-view before year’s end. However, a date and weight class for the scrap are still being determined.

In addition, it is unknown how Bellator and RJJ will brand the match. It would mark Bellator’s debut in the PPV pond.

“We’ve been talking to Roy and his people over a potential Rampage vs. Roy fight for over seven months,” one of Rampage’s representatives told MMAJunkie. “If it happens, it would be an incredible fight.

“Boxing and MMA have both been discussed, and [Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney] has been in these discussions every step of the way. I can’t say much more than that. We’ll see what happens.”

In June, Rampage inked a multi-year deal to perform for Bellator and TNA Impact Wrestling. He joins the Viacom-owned companies on the heels of a three-fight losing skid in the UFC.

RJJ was one of boxing’s most unstoppable forces prior to losing to Antonio Tarver in 2004. The 44-year-old legend was eyeing a fight with Silva, but everything went out the window when Weidman served up this month’s upset special.
