That Jose Aldo (pictured) sure has some stones on him … literally. Not only did the reigning UFC featherweight king continue fighting with a broken right foot for roughly 17 minutes in successfully defending his throne Saturday against “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung, but it appears he also did it with kidney stones.
Dr. Marcio Tannure, the UFC’s physician in Brazil, told UOL Tuesday that Aldo was taken to Copa D’Or hospital in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro and was diagnosed with kidney stones.
“I learned about this problem with Andre [Pederneiras, Aldo’s coach],” Tannure said to MMAFighting. “He had renal calculus (kidney stones) before. He needs to send me the results of the exams so I can check it. Andre told me it’s not serious, and he probably already expelled the stones.”
Well, what else could it be?
Kidney stones are no laughing matter, but I never miss a chance to throw out a “Friends” reference – in everyday life or professionally, apparently.
Aldo will have plenty of time to heal from passing the stones. “Scarface” was issued a 90-day medical suspension yesterday for the broken foot he suffered after unleashing his first kick at UFC 163.
