With “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers” officially in the books, let’s take a look ahead to the San Jose-based oranization’s next major promotion, “Strikeforce: Evolution,” set to take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. on December 19th.
Over the weekend, the organization announced that the night’s main event will feature a middleweight slug-fest between former champ Cung Le and MMA vet Scott Smith. The scrap will mark Le’s first professional fight since he TKO’d Frank Shamrock in May of 2008 and since he relinquished his crown to pursue an acting career.
Former UFC mainstay Matt Lindland will also be fighting the up-and-coming Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in a middleweight affair, the contest marks their debuts for the promotion.
Speaking of debuts, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal will also be participating in the show. Additionally, Strikeforce is pushing to have female title holder Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos return on the December 19th card as well.
Even though they just announced the card a month before kick off, it’s looking promising. If they are able to add a few more solid filler bouts, Strikeforce can safely say that they have put together a few LEGIT MMA cards.
Here are the fighters rumored to be competing in the Showtime event:
Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal vs. TBD
Robbie Lawler vs. TBD
Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos (Strikeforce Women’s Champion) vs TBD
Josh Thomson (Strikeforce Lightweight Champion) vs TBD
Scott Smith vs. Cung Le
