After watching Matt Brown put Mike Pyle to sleep on Saturday night, Twitter exploded with fans calling for a Brown vs. Rory MacDonald matchup. Hold your horses, says UFC president Dana White.
Despite Brown’s impressive victory, which marked his sixth straight in the talent-rich welterweight division, White said the promotion is looking to arrange a 170-pound shootout between MacDonald and Robbie Lawler (pictured).
White made the announcement to a small group of media members after Saturday’s press conference. He wasn’t able to confirm a date or location for the fight, but he said it would likely happen “soon.”
Lawler has been nothing short of spectacular since returning to the UFC two scraps ago. The 31-year-old not only beat former top contender Josh Koscheck and Bobby Voelker, but he did so in devastating fashion.
MacDonald, who most believe is destined to be the UFC welterweight champion, has won five consecutive bouts. He posted a lopsided unanimous decision win over fellow up-and-comer Jake Ellenberger just last month.
