GSP/Penn II Not Until Super Bowl Weekend

UFC President Dana White has announced that the highly anticipated rematch between welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and BJ Penn will not take place on the UFC’s New Year’s Eve card, but instead will take place on the UFC’s January 31st 2009 event, on Super Bowl weekend. White also confirmed that the UFC is indeed headed to Oregon. The powerhouse organization will be hosting UFC 91 at the Rose Garden on November 15th and will feature a lightweight bout between Kenny Florian and Joe Stevenson. 

White also told Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole that there is no certainty that former Pride 205-pound champion Wanderlei Silva will compete at UFC 92, as Silva has stated he would.

White said the UFC’s 2008 calendar is as follows:

September 6 in Atlanta, Georgia: UFC 88 – Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans
September 17 in Omaha, Nebraska: UFC Fight Night 15 – Nate Diaz vs. Josh Neer
October 18 in Birmingham, England: UFC 89 – Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben
October 25 in Rosemont, Illinois.: UFC 90 – Anderson Silva vs. Patrick Cote
November 15 in Portland, Oregon: UFC 91 – Kenny Florian vs. Joe Stevenson
December 13 in Las Vegas, Nevada: “The Ultimate Fighter Season 8” Finale
December 27 in Las Vegas, Nevada: UFC 92 with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir
January 31, 2009: Super Bowl Weekend – BJ Penn vs. Georges St-Pierre
