During last night’s broadcast of “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers,” it was announced that former middleweight champion Cung Le will be returning to the cage to face Scott Smith. The bout will headline the recently announced “Strikeforce: Evolution” event on December 19th, which also features several of the promotion’s newest additions.
Matt Lindland will take on fellow newcomer Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in a middleweight bout and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal will also be making his debut for Strikeforce against a yet-to-be named opponent.
“Strikeforce: Evolution” will take place inside the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, the unofficial home for the promotion.
Just a few months back, Le voluntarily vacated his middleweight title to pursue an acting career, however has now found the time to return to combat. Their stand up battle is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
Speaking of open middleweight belts, Jake Shields defeated Jason Miller on Saturday night at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers” to become the organization’s top 185-pound dog.
Also returning to action will be “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler, who was last seen facing the aforementioned Shields at “Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields” this past June. Lawler was caught in a guillotine choke in the 1stRound of their contest, which gave Shields the opportunity to fight for the title.
