The UFC sure did Chael Sonnen a solid by not matching him up against Vitor Belfort (pictured) – so says Vitor Belfort.

Seconds after it was announced on “UFC Tonight,” where Sonnen was sitting in his customary co-host seat, that Belfort had agreed to rematch Dan Henderson in November, “The Phenom” took to Twitter to accuse Sonnen of being “afraid” to fight him.

“@sonnench u are very good actor. But u couldn’t hide that u are very relief that u don’t have to fight me. I know from a very close friend of yours that since I K.O YOUR coach Matt lindand your a very afraid to fight me. Don’t be afraid to admit, and let my friend @kennyflorian talk. Only u talk,” Belfort wrote.

Belfort viciously put Lindland to sleep at “Affliction: Day of Reckoning” in January 2009.

Don’t be scared, homie.

Belfort requested a tango with Sonnen minutes after Uncle Chael submitted former light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua on Saturday. While UFC president Dana White heard his plea – to which White responded, “Vitor … my God.” – the promotion decided to move in a different direction.

Interestingly, Sonnen had previously accepted Belfort’s challenge prior to his scrap with Shogun. Perhaps the UFC is eyeing a New Year’s Eve weekend bash between Sonnen and Lyoto Machida at UFC 168. At least, that’s what the rumor mill is suggesting.
