Following 2008, which will have 19 total events, the UFC will look to grow that number to anywhere from 23-25 in 2009. The UFC’s UK divisional president, Marshall Zeleznik, is looking to get UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta to hold more events in Europe this year. It’s clear that if the UFC wants to be the single-dominant MMA promotion, they’re going to have to grow their roots past the U.S.
After successful events in Canada and the U.K., it would seem as though the UFC has a blueprint to not only expand, but expand successfully, as they are already growing in Mexico.
First things first though, as they are hoping to get sanctioning issues in both Massachusetts and New York before heading abroad.
