Jared Shaw and EliteXC Back Off of Noons

After giving current EliteXC lightweight champion, KJ Noons, an ultimatum to defend his title against Nick Diaz on October 4th or be stripped of his title, EliteXC Vice President Jared Shaw has backed off his comments. Shaw said today that the fight is “definitely not happening” on EliteXC’s third and possibly final broadcast on CBS.

MMA Junkie did have the opportunity to speak to Jared Shaw and he feels that Noons will still defend his title on October 4th, but his challenger will not be Diaz.

A re-match between the strong-willed Diaz and Noons would be easy for EliteXC to promote to help with ratings, but Noons has stated in the past that he has no interest in fighting Diaz again.

Even though Noons looks like he’s in the clear with the EliteXC brass, don’t expect for the war of words between Noons’ manager, Mark Dion, and Jared Shaw to end anytime soon.
