‘UFC Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann 2’ Live Results and Play-by-Play

“UFC Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann 2” took place Wednesday inside Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

A pivotal welterweight rematch between Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann served as tonight’s featured attraction. Lightweights Donald Cerrone and Rafael dos Anjos served as the co-main event.

Here are the official results and play-by-play from tonight’s action:

Preliminary Card:

Roger Bowling vs. Abel Trujillo No Contest (Unintentional Illegal Knee) at 4:57 in the 2ndRound

1stRound: Bowling clocks him with a big right to start things off. He follows up with another right, but Trujillo returns fire with a right hand of his own. Bowling picks him up and slams Trujillo to the mat. Trujillo bounces right back up and lands a knee as they separate. Trujillo takes his back and secures a takedown. Bowling slaps on a guillotine choke, but Trujillo is saved by the bell.

5thRound scores it: Bowling, 10-9.

2ndRound: Bowling gets a brief takedown. Trujillo lands two left hooks on the break. Bowling tags his lead leg with a thunderous kick. Trujillo looks winded. They are exchanging leather in the pocket. Bowling scores a takedown. Trujillo fights to his feet. Good shots by Trujillo. Bowling plants him on his back again. Bowling takes his back and locks in a rear-naked choke. Trujillo escapes and unloads an illegal knee to his downed opponent’s head. Time is called. Bowling is still down. The referee was going to deduct a point from Trujillo, but the cageside doctor has called the fight because Bowling was knocked out.

Zak Cummings Defeats Ben Alloway via Submission (D’arce Choke) at 4:19 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Cummings scores a takedown and lands in side control. Alloway uses wrist control to get to his feet. Cummings has him clinched against the cage. Cummings has him in a front head lock and transitions to a D’arce choke. Alloway is forced to call it quits.

Jason High Defeats James Head via Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 1:41 in the 1stRound

1stRound: High ducks under a punch and lands a takedown. He slaps on a guillotine choke. Head is frantically scrambling to try and escape, though High now ends up in full mount with the lock. Game, set, match, High.

Darren Elkins Defeats Hatsu Hioki via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

1stRound: Elkins landing combinations early. Hioki wobbles him with a left hand. Hioki doing damage with shots to the body. Elkins tags him with another combo. Hioki has blood dripping from around his right eye. Hioki nearly folds him over with another kick to the midsection and pounces. He flurries on Elkins and caps it off with a knee to the midsection.  

5thRound scores it: Hioki, 10-9.

2ndRound: Elkins connects on another combo. Hioki secures a takedown, but Elkins quickly gets to his feet. Left hand by Elkins. Hioki answers with a knee to the midsection. Elkins gets a double-leg takedown. He takes Hioki’s back. Hioki fights to his feet, but Elkins is smothering him. Hioki uses a kimura to take Elkins’ back. Elkins regains top position. Great fight.

5thRound scores it: Elkins, 10-9.

3rdRound: This one’s up for grabs. Who wants it? Elkins lands a powerful takedown in under a minute. Two big lefts by Elkins. Active ground-and-pound by Elkins, while Hioki is working on a triangle from his back. Elkins is draped all over him like a wet blanket.

5thRond scores it: Elkins, 10-9, and should win, 29-28.

Brandon Thatch Defeats Justin Edwards via TKO (Strikes) at 1:23 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Fast and furious pace early. Thatch drops him with a head kick, but Edwards bounces right back up. Edwards eats a knee to the grill. Thatch is giving him the business. Edwards is still fighting, but he’s dazed and confused. Thatch drops him again with a right. Thatch continues his assault on the canvas. I think it’s time to call this one… Finally.

Dylan Andrews Defeats Papy Abedi via TKO (Punches) at 1:32 in the 3rdRound

1stRound: Not much action in the opening two minutes. Abedi lands a punch as he shoots for a takedown. Abedi scores a brief takedown, but Andrews reverses momentarily. Abedi regains top position. They exchange takedowns a couple of times. It will be interesting to see how the judges will score the opening frame.

5thRound scores it: Abedi, 10-9.

2ndRound: Much of the same back-and-forth action in the middle stanza. Abedi tags him with a right and gets a takedown. Abedi landing some short elbows on the mat. Abedi is bringing the thunder now. Abedi working on a guillotine choke, but Andrews doing a solid job of defending. Abedi takes an accidental knee to the groin as the horn sounds.

5thRound scores it: Abedi, 10-9.

3rdRound: Andrews lands a one-two combo. Abedi is clinching him against the fence. They are quickly broken up for inactivity. Andrews clocks him with a right and follows up with an uppercut. Abedi is planking on the canvas and taking several punches to the dome. That’s a wrap. Great comeback.

Main Card:

Brad Tavares Defeats Robert McDaniel via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

1stRound: McDaniel connects on a straight left hand. Tavares tags him with a kick to the midsection that stumbled his opponent. He lets McDaniel back up. McDaniel lands a combo, but is immediately clinched against the cage.

5thRound scores it: avares, 10-9.

2ndRound: Tavares starting to find his groove now. He wobbles McDaniel with a left hand. Tavares charges forward and McDaniel ends up on top after a scramble. They are back to their feet. Tavares gets a body lock and trip him to the mat. He’s standing over McDaniel.

5thRound scores it: Tavares, 10-9.

3rdRound: McDaniel stuns him with a big left and opts to clinch. He should have separated and continued his standup assault. Now Tavares is clinching him against the cage and has recovered. McDaniel takes a big kick to the groin and time is called. Game on. McDaniel charges ahead and secures a takedown with three minutes to do work. McDaniel is controling him on the ground, but he needs a finish and is running out of time.

5thRound scores it: McDaniel, 10-9, but likely lost, 29-28.

Takeya Mizugaki Defeats Erik Perez via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

1stRound: They are exchanging fire early. Perez lands a flying knee and misses on a second try. He plants Mizugaki on his back. Perez is bleeding from his nose. Mizugaki gets to his feet, though is put right back down. Mizugaki fights loose. Mizugaki gets a double-leg takedown.

5thRound scores it: Perez, 10-9.

2ndRound: Perez has him clinched against the cage. Mizugaki lands a combination. He wobbles Perez with a right hand. Mizugaki nails him with a straight right. Perez has his takedown attempt stuffed.

5thRound scores it: Mizugaki, 10-9.

3rdRound: They trade punches in he pocket again. Mizugaki wins the exchange and trips him to the mat. He lets Perez back up. Mizugaki gets a takedown and transitions to his back. He slaps on a rear-naked choke. Perez was in deep waters, but managed to escape. Mizugaki ends the fight with a flurry.

5thRound scores it: Mizugaki, 10-9, and likely won, 29-28.

Court McGee Defeats Robert Whittaker via Split Decision (30-27, 27-30, 29-28)

1stRound: McGee working his leg kicks. Whittaker floors him with a left hook just as McGee was shooting. Whittaker’s left hand looks sharp. McGee has blood trickling down from his right eye. Tight round to score.

5thRound scores it: Whittaker, 10-9.

2ndRound: McGee stuns him with a combination. He’s coming out with a greater sense of urgency in this frame. Short standing elbow by McGee. He briefly put Whittaker on his back. Whittaker scores with a pair of elbows.

5thRound scores it: McGee, 10-9.

3rdRound: Spinning back kick by McGee. He follows up with a right hook. Whittaker tags him again with a left. That has been his best weapon tonight. McGee’s unsuccessful on a takedown attempt. McGee continues to charge forward with a barrage of strikes. Whittaker returns fire. The crowd goes wild as the final horn blares. This might be controversial.

5thRound scores it: McGee, 10-9, and possibly won, 29-28.

Kelvin Gastelum Defeats Brian Melancon via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 2:26 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Gastelum gets a brief takedown. And again. Gastelum clobbers him with a one-two combo. He quickly jumps on Melancon’s back and locks in a rear-naked choke. Game over.

Rafael dos Anjos Defeats Donald Cerrone via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

1stRound: The lightweights are trading kicks to start things off. Dos Anjos drops him with a vicious right hook. He almost gets caught in a triangle choke as he followed Cerrone to the ground. Dos Anjos is on top with 90 seconds to work. Dos Anjos dropping several short elbows.

5thRound scores it: Dos Anjos, 10-9.

2ndRound: Nice combo by Dos Anjos. Cerrone eats a knee to the face. Cerrone scores a takedown to try and change momentum. Dos Anjos fights to his feet and has him clinched against the fence. They trade knees on the break. Dos Anjos scors a double-leg takedown. That may have won the Brazilian the round.

5thRound scores it: Dos Anjos, 10-9.

3rdRound: Thunderous leg kick by Cerrone that floors his opponent. Dos Anjos catches a kick and is working hard to drag “Cowboy” do the canvas. Cerrone fends him off.  Cerrone lands some nice strikes. Dos Anjos gets denied on another takedown try. Could be too little too late for Cerrone.

5thRound score it: Cerrone, 10-9, but likely lost, 29-28.

Carlos Condit Defeats Martin Kampmann via TKO (Strikes) at :54 in the 4thRound

1stRound: Kampmann immediately goes for a takedown and trips him to the canvas. Condit gets to his feet, but is slammed back down. Kampmann advances to his back. Condit gets up, then planted right back down. Condit fights free and comes up firing. And another takedown for Kampmann.

5thRound scores it: Kampmann, 10-9.

2ndRound: Kampmann lands a solid left hand. Condit scores his first points with a combo. Another nice combo by Condit. Kampmann answers with a left. Condit starting to find his groove. Kampmann has him pressed against the cage looking for another takedown.

5thRound scores it: Condit, 10-9.

3rdRound: Kampmann slams him to the mat. Condit gets up without taking any damage. Condit is starting to land significant shots, Kampmann’s face is proof. Kampmann’s face is covered in blood. Condit tags him with a flurry and tops it off with a flying knee. Condit tries a standing choke, Kampmann spins loose, but is almost caught in a rear-naked choke. He’s not out of the woods yet.

5thRound scores it: Condit, 10-9.

4thRound: Kampmann trips him to the ground and lands a left hook. Condit is back up. Condit staggers him with a right to the body and goes in for the kill. He tags Kampmann with some knees to the grill. After a couple punches on the ground, referee Herb Dean brings the assault to a stop.
