During Saturday night’s Bellator 98 event, the organization announced former UFC heavyweight Cheick Kongo (pictured) will make his promotional debut against Mark Godbeer.

Bellator 101 takes place September 27 inside Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon.

While the promotion didn’t confirm, it is believed Kongo and Godbeer will meet in the opening round of Bellator’s Season 9 heavyweight tournament.

Last month, Kongo became the latest UFC fighter to jump to Bellator. The kickboxer went 11-6-1 during his seven-year run inside the Octagon. He never fought for a UFC title.

Godbeer fights for the first time since taking a win at BAMMA 9 in March 2012. He’s won eight of his last nine scraps.
