UFC Lightweight Anthony Pettis

If Anthony Pettis’ (pictured) injured left knee heals in time, the UFC would love to have their new lightweight champ defend his throne against TJ Grant at UFC on FOX 9.

Reporter Ariel Helwani passed along the rumor during this week’s edition of “UFC Tonight.”

Pettis suffered a grade two PCL sprain and an LCL strain on his left knee during this month’s submission victory over Benson Henderson at UFC 164. Fortunately for all parties concerned, “Showtime” avoided surgery and should be back in action in two months.

The creator of the “Showtime Kick” has won eight of his last nine bouts, including four consecutive.

Speaking of fighting Henderson at UFC 164, the spot opened up for Pettis because Grant suffered a concussion during training. Grant earned the opportunity after steamrolling former top contender Gray Maynard at UFC 160.

He will be riding a five-fight winning streak into the biggest bout of his life. Grant has finished off his last two victims in devastating (T)KO fashion.

FOX will broadcast the main card live beginning at 8PM ET/5PM PT.

The December 14 event will likely take place inside Sleep Train Arena (formerly known as Arco Arena).
