Like it or not, Eddie Wineland, and Eddie most certainly does not, you just became a part of Renan Barao’s highlight reel package after what took place at UFC 165.
After a back-and-forth opening round in Saturday night’s co-main event, Barao unleashed a spinning back-kick in the second stanza that clocked Wineland right in the grill. A few punches on the canvas later and referee Yves Lavigne decided he had seen enough.
Wineland is claiming it was a premature stoppage.
Regardless, Barao posted his second consecutive interim bantamweight title defense. He has held the manufactured belt for exactly one year now.
Barao hasn’t lost a tango since his professional debut in April 2005. That was 32 fights ago (1 NC in the middle of his torrid run).
Injured 135-pound champion Dominick Cruz is presumed to be Barao’s next match, but it seems like we’ve been saying that forever now.
UFC 165 took place inside Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
