Reigning UFC light heavyweight king Jon Jones (pictured) has just entered elite status on the sponsorship front. On Thursday, his management announced Jones will be the first UFC fighter to don the Gatorade logo inside the Octagon when he defends his throne against Alexander Gustafsson on Saturday at UFC 165.
Gatorade’s insignia will be prominently displayed on Jones’ fight shorts as he looks to become the UFC’s most decorated 205-pound champion by posting six consecutive title defenses.
“It’s great that a company like Gatorade sees the value that their products bring to MMA athletes,” Jones said. “They’re one of the biggest brands in sports worldwide, and I am honored to have their support moving forward.
“It does not get any better than Gatorade when it comes to fueling your body, during training and competition.”
Jones, who is also sponsored by Nike, has now landed the two biggest endorsers any professional athlete can ask for.
UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre was featured in a Gatorade commercial a couple of years ago. While it’s unknown if GSP is still sponsored by the athletic sports drink company, he never wore Gatorade’s logo inside the cage.
