Heavyweights Matt Mitrione (pictured) and Brendan Schaub had plenty to say – and tweet – to each other heading into UFC 165. However, Mitrione couldn’t say much when their fight was over because he was unconscious on the canvas.
After securing a powerful takedown in the opening round, Schaub slapped on a nifty d’arce choke. After fighting it off for as long as he could, Mitrione refused to tap and opted to go to sleep instead.
After the contest, the 265-pounders hugged it out and agreed to put their feud behind them.
Unfortunately for Schaub, his choke wasn’t good enough to score an extra $50,000 for “Submission of the Night.” The UFC gave that paycheck to Mitch Gagnon for his guillotine on Dustin Kimura.
UFC 165 took place inside Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
