Oh, that ever-ambiguous “…” Was UFC lightweight Nate Diaz (pictured) serious when he revealed his all-important 10-year high school reunion was the reason he could no longer meet Gray Maynard at “The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale“?
“@ufc Cant make it november 30th ive gotta high school reuinion i have to tend too…” Diaz tweeted Monday.
He did conclude his post with the always-vague “…” after all. So, who knows?
Speaking of not knowing, UFC president Dana White also isn’t sure if Diaz was joking or if he legitimately intends on rekindling friendships with his fellow 2003 Tokay High School alum on November 30. Either way, Diaz’s boss didn’t seem too concerned about the potential unexcused absence.
“I’m shocked,” White sarcastically said during Tuesday’s press stop in Las Vegas. “The Diaz brothers are doing something crazy? I’m shocked. I don’t know. I heard about it [Monday]. Somebody told me [Monday] about it, but I haven’t talked to [UFC matchmaker Joe Silva] or Nate or anybody. I don’t even know if it’s true.
“I didn’t even know Nate did this, that he tweeted it. Did he talk to Joe Silva? If he really tweeted that he’s going to his high school reunion and didn’t call Joe and those guys and say, ‘Hey, I don’t think…’ I don’t take Twitter for news. It’s not an official statement.”
Until the MMA world hears otherwise from the UFC, Diaz and Maynard are still slated to collide inside Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Can you imagine the kind of precedent this would set if Diaz was excused from the fight to hit up his high school reunion?
