Former UFC middleweight top contender Yushin Okami (pictured) will be taking his talents to World Series of Fighting.
MMAFighting.com confirmed Sunday with WSOF executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz that Okami has inked a multi-fight deal to join the up-start mixed martial arts promotion. As customary, financial terms of his contract were not disclosed.
The 32-year-old is expected to make his WSOF debut sometime around March 2014.
Okami was unexpectedly released from the UFC last month. He owns an impressive 29-8 professional record, but 18 of his fights (14 wins, 4 losses) have come via decision.
Okami had his three-fight winning streak viciously snapped by former Strikeforce champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in his last outing. However, he has won six of his past nine scraps, with his blemishes during that run coming against then-champ Anderson Silva, Tim Boetsch (a bout Okami had well under control until Boetsch staged a late rally) and Souza.
