Strikeforce Daniel Cormier

Daniel Cormier (pictured) was a significant odds-on favorite to dispose of Roy Nelson at UFC 166, and he certainly proved the Gambling Gods true on Saturday night.

A trimmed-down Cormier did pretty much anything he wanted to Nelson, except finish him. Cormier constantly beat “Big Country” to the punch, took him down whenever he felt like it and ultimately scored a lopsided (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) for his efforts.

Cormer, who weighed a sleek 224 pounds for the heavyweight tango, announced after the scrap he would be dropping to the light heavyweight division for his next fight. It’s an obvious move because he expects AKA teammate and reigning UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez to dominate the division for an extended period of time.

“DC” stopped just short of calling out light heavyweight king Jon Jones during his post-fight celebratory speech. The 34-year-old admitted he still has a lot of work to do.

UFC 166 took place inside Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
