And here we thought “The Ultimate Fighter 18” with Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate was intense. On Monday night’s edition of “Fox Sports 1 Live,” UFC president Dana White announced bitter rivals Wanderlei Silva (pictured) and Chael Sonnen will serve as opposing coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3.”
The archenemies will collide once filming wraps on the reality series. It is unknown whether the tango will take place at light heavyweight or middleweight.
White also didn’t confirm when filming would begin on the series.
Needless to say, Sonnen, who was conducting tonight’s interview with White, was pleasantly surprised by the announcement.
“You two will coach ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ You will have a ton of security down there with you and it should be a fun season,” White told Sonnen.
It’s no secret Silva and Sonnen despise each other. They have been exchanging pleasantries for years, with Uncle Chael turning up the heat an extra notch since he submitted Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in August.
During his post-fight celebratory speech, Sonnen called him a pile of “crap,” among many other things, to try and goad “The Axe Murderer” into a fight. Silva responded last month by going after Sonnen at the Olympia Expo in Las Vegas.
The bitter rivals had to be separated before things got nasty.
Silva is currently sidelined with a back injury and will be out of action until January. Sonnen co-headlines UFC 167 against Rashad Evans on November 16.
