Money, it’s gotta be the shorts! The shorts! The shorts! Miguel Torres (pictured) is from Chicago, so he should understand that Michael Jordan reference.

However, what Torres doesn’t understand is why he was forced to change his shorts when he was already in the cage about to fight Pablo Alfonso at “World Series of Fighting 6.”

According to Torres, referee Troy Waugh told him he was no longer permitted to wear his spats and had to sprint backstage to swap into shorts. The former WEC bantamweight champion claims the last-second wardrobe change totally messed his his psyche and played a significant role in Saturday’s first round submission loss.

Here is what Torres posted on his Facebook page:

“Was told by WSOF I could wear my spats, got my knee brace approved by commission, felt great and was on point warming up. Was in blue corner and was already in the cage about to fight then told by ref I had to leave and change into shorts. Had to sprint 100 yards there, look for shorts, then sprint back. Was not expecting that, threw my mind off and I didn’t execute in my fight. I apologize to all my training partners and students and especially my daughter. I make no excuse and take this lose personally and with full responsibility, I am better than what I showed today. Congrats to Pablo and his team, may they enjoy their night. See everyone in the gym on Monday, so sorry everyone.”

But no excuses, though…

It’s understandable how an unexpected change on game day can mess with a fighter’s mind, especially one as fragile as Torres’. The 32-year-old simply hasn’t recovered from getting put to sleep by Brian Bowles in 2009, which cost him his WEC belt.

Torres dropped his following scrap, then four of his next seven after that. He’s in the midst of a three-fight skid, the longest of his 13-year MMA career.

Torres was 37-1 before his lights out KO loss to Bowles.
