The hype train for Saturday night’s “UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin II” surges ahead as Spike TV will debut “Countdown to UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin II” tonight at 12:30AM ET/PT. The show is expected to generate added hoopla for this weekend’s fight inside the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas.
“Countdown to UFC 106” will chronicle the preparation of the two main event fighters as they get closer to their rematch. Coincidentally, Ortiz will once again be making his Octagon return against Griffin as he previously took a controversial split decision in their initial meeting at “UFC 59: Reality Check” in April 2006.
Ortiz will be ending his 18-month hiatus from the Octagon after he battled UFC brass for an extension and recouped from an October 2008 back surgery.
Ortiz last competed on May 24th, 2008 at “UFC 84: Ill Will” where he was thoroughly dominated by Lyoto Machida, although Ortiz almost caught Machida in a triangle choke as the final horn sounded.
Griffin, meanwhile, looks to bounce back from a humbling loss to middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 101.
