The California State Athletic Commission has released the official salaries for all of the contestants who competed in Saturday’s “Bellator 106: Chandler vs. Alvarez II” event.
I’m gonna ask you a simple question and I want you to listen to me: who’s the big winner here tonight at the Long Beach Convention Center? Huh? Eddie, that’s who. Eddie’s the big winner. Eddie wins.
Just a little “Swingers” reference, just in case you didn’t get it.
Eddie Alvarez (pictured) not only avenged his 2011 upset loss to Michael Chandler to reclaim his lightweight title, but Alvarez also left as the night’s highest earner. Alvarez, fresh off a bitter contract dispute with Bellator MMA, pocketed $160,000 for beating Chandler, with half of his check coming via win bonus.
Chandler, who just inked an eight-fight extension to remain with the promotion in July, a deal Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney boasted would make Chandler “one of the MMA’s highest paid lightweights” – scored $95K in defeat.
Please keep in mind, the numbers that get reported to the athletic commissions are only of what’s required. These figures do not include deductions for items such as licenses and taxes.
Additionally, they do not contain money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes represent a substantial portion of a fighter’s total income.
