Gegard Mousasi

Mousasi Wouldn’t Mind Henderson – While lesser light heavyweights attempt to hoard the spotlight, Gegard Mousasi continues to quietly go about his business, finishing off one opponent after another with the greatest of ease. However, he’s quickly learning that he will rarely find himself in the underdog role that he has grown accustomed to.

“I like more the underdog position; there’s no expectation,” Mousasi told MMAWeekly following his 2ndRound TKO over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. “That’s better for me cause I don’t like to be the favorite.”

The gambler in me isn’t too fond of it either. Now that Mousasi has emerged on the MMA scene State-side, it’s rare that the Iranian would be anything less than a 2.5-to-1 favorite, which is what he was entering his scrap against Renato “Babalu” Sobral at “Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg” this past August.

After disposing of the former champ and jacking his title in 60 of the most hard-fought seconds of his career, Mousasi’s stock skyrocketed even further, pushing his betting line against Sokoudjou to -500 (5-to-1 favorite) at fight time.

It will be interesting to see how the sports books rate Mousasi’s next contest. If he gets his way, Strikeforce will be need to ink MMA vet Dan Henderson to a contract. However, former Pride FC star Ricardo Arona’s name has been thrown around as a possible foe as well.

“It depends on what’s best for the U.S. market. I think a fight against Dan Henderson would be more interesting than fighting a guy like Ricardo Arona because he’s from Brazil, I’m from Holland,” Mousasi stated. “It depends on the opponent and what [Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker] decides and what the audience wants to see.”

Mousasi vs. Hendo would be nice …
