Officially, UFC welterweight king Georges St-Pierre (pictured) notched his ninth consecutive title defense at UFC 167. However, did he really beat Johny Hendricks on Saturday night?

To say GSP’s latest achievement isn’t marred in controversy would be an understatement. UFC president Dana White, nearly everyone sitting in press row and most of the fans inside MGM Grand Garden Arena felt Hendricks should be leaving Las Vegas with the belt wrapped around his waist.

Unfortunately for “Bigg Rigg,” two of the three judges didn’t see it that way. When the dust settled on their scrap, St-Pierre was gifted a (48-47, 47-48, 48-47) split decision victory.

On the bright side for Hendricks, he (and St-Pierre) took home an extra $50,000 for “Fight of the Night” honors. That makes up for everything, right Johny?

Didn’t think so.

After the highly controversial win, St-Pierre announced he’s taking a leave from MMA to tend to personal matters. However, White thinks his biggest pay-per-view draw will be back sooner than later.
