The light heavyweight scrap between former champion Rashad Evans (pictured) and Chael Sonnen at UFC 167 went pretty much how everyone anticipated it would.
Perhaps the most surprising thing about Saturday’s fight was it looked like Sonnen didn’t really want to be there. Evans pretty much dominated the action from the opening bell.
“Suga” was a 2-1 odds-on favorite to beat his buddy, and it turns out that line was far too low. Sonnen couldn’t take Evans down, then was easily planted on his back and pounded on.
A vicious elbow to the face marked the beginning of the end for Sonnen. After giving up his back, several bombs to the dome and the fight was called at the 4:05 mark in the opening round.
UFC 167 took place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
