In today’s TMZ-powered world, there was very little chance reigning UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre (pictured) had in keeping the personal issues that caused him to announce he would be taking a temporary leave from mixed martial arts private.
Speaking of TMZ.com, the celebrity gossip website reports St-Pierre is dealing with two major problems – his father is dying and he impregnated a woman who he doesn’t want to have a baby with, but she insists on keeping the child.
Following Saturday’s controversial split decision victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167, St-Pierre unexpectedly announced he would be impermanently walking away from MMA at the height of his career to deal with some private matters.
“It was a lot of talk about what was going to happen. I have a bunch of stuff in my life happening. I need to hang up my gloves for a little bit, at least make a point on my life,” St-Pierre vaguely stated during his post-fight interview. “I have to go away for a little bit, at least. I have personal things happening.”
The 32-year-old superstar remained mum on his issues during the UFC 167 post-fight press conference, only sharing that he hasn’t been able to sleep at night.
UFC president Dana White was initially livid with St-Pierre for his abrupt announcement, but after talking with his biggest pay-per-view draw said GSP’s “problems aren’t as bad as he thinks they are” and would most likely be back in action sooner rather than later.
No word from the UFC or St-Pierre regarding TMZ’s report.
