A broken right pinkie toe has forced Mike Kyle (pictured) out of his World Series of Fighting 7 scrap against Anthony Johnson. Rick Glenn and Georgi Karakhanyan, who are battling for the inaugural WSOF featherweight title, now headline the December 7 show.
Picture or it didn’t happen! Okay…
“I’m as disappointed as anyone that we’re forced to cancel this fight, but Mike just could not compete with his broken toe, and we simply could not find a suitable opponent for Anthony on such short notice,” said WSOF president Ray Sefo said. “That said, we are fortunate that we still have a fantastic championship matchup between Georgi Karakhanyan and Lance Palmer that will now serve as our main event, and I think fans are still going to enjoy an incredible fight card.”
This marks the second straight time Johnson vs. Kyle has been postponed. They were slated to headline WSOF 5 until an injury forced Johnson to withdraw. Kyle subsequently dropped a decision to Andrei Arlovski that September evening.
No word on what the promotion now has in store for Johnson or how long Kyle will be sidelined.
The preliminary bout between Dwayne Lewis and Kalib Starnes (yeah, remember him? #WatchKalibRun) has been promoted to the main card.
PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, Canada serves as host. NBC Sports Network will broadcast the main card live in America starting at 9PM ET/6PM PT.
Here is the event’s revised lineup:
Michael Hill vs. Richard Arsenault
Shawn Albrecht vs. Josh Machan
Dwayne Lewis vs. Kalib Starnes
Nick Newell vs. Sabah Fadai
Elvis Mutapcic vs. Jesse Taylor (semifinal middleweight tournament)
Rick Glenn vs. Georgi Karakhanyan (for inaugural WSOF featherweight title)
