UFC TUF Poster Final 18 Diaz Maynard

“The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale” took place Saturday night inside Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A lightweight scrap between former top contenders Gray Maynard and Nate Diaz headlined tonight’s show. The event also featured a pair of TUF 18 finals bouts.

David Grant faced Chris Holdsworth, while Julianna Pena battled Jessica Rakoczy for six-figure UFC contracts.

Here are the official results and play-by-play for the main card from tonight’s action:

Jared Rosholt Defeats Walter Harris via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Raquel Pennington Defeats Roxanne Modafferi via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

1stRound: Pro-Modafferi crowd here in Vegas, to say the least. Nothing significant landing for either fighter. Modafferi lands a combination. Surprising she hasn’t tried to take this to the mat yet. Pennington’s hands are thunder, while Modafferi scores with potshots. Tight round to score.

5thRound scores it: Pennington, 10-9.

2ndRound: Modafferi charges forward with a one-two combo and shoots for a takedown. Pennington throws her off. Modafferi shoots again and almost gets caught in a front choke. Pennington takes top position, while Modafferi works for various submission from her back. Pennington is landing some bombs. Pennington allows her back up. Modafferi eats a left hook. Pennington clocks her with a right hand.

5thRound scores it: Pennington, 10-9.

3rdRound: Modafferi’s pace has slowed quite a bit. Pennington scores a takedown and is working some decent ground-and-pound. Modafferi fights to her feet, but is nearly caught in a standing guillotine choke. They stumble to the ground and Pennington is on top with the submission attempt. The bell appears to save Modafferi.

5thRound scores it, Pennington, 10-9, and likely won, 30-27.

Jessamyn Duke Defeats Peggy Morgan via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

1stRound: Duke’s hands look sharp early. She has Morgan clinched against the cage. Duke jumps guard in an attempt to finish it with an arm-in guillotine choke. Morgan gets free, but might get caught in a triangle choke. Duke landing multiple elbows and punches from her back.

5thRound scores it: Duke, 10-9.

2ndRound: Duke continues to win the standup battle. Duke scores with a one-two combo. Pretty much a sparring session in the middle stanza, with Duke winning by a mile. Duke scores a last-second takedwon to secure the round.

5thRound scores it: Duke, 10-9.

3rdRound: Duke landing big knees to the body in the clinch. She has her pressed against the fence. Duke goes for a headlock, like she’s in elementary school and ends up in a bad spot. Morgan almost got both hooks, but is not in top position. They get stood up due to inactivity. Not quite sure about that… Duke immediately starts landing punches.

5thRound scores it: Duke, 10-9, and should run the table, 30-27.

Chris Holdsworth Defeats David Grant via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 2:10 in the 2ndRound (Holdsworth wins TUF 18 men’s tournament)

1stRound: Grant lands two powerful leg kicks. Grants tags him with two big rights. Holdsworth responds with a heavy right of his own. Holdsworth working hard for a takedown, but can’t complete it. Grant fails on a throw and ends up on the bottom. Tight one to score.

5thRound scores it: Holdsworth, 10-9.

2ndRound: Grant catches a head kick and nearly trips him to the ground. Best action of the night thus far. Holdsworth secures a takedown and lands in side control. Holdsworth jumps on his back and is going for a rear-naked choke. Grant is forced to cry uncle.

Julianna Pena Defeats Jessica Rakoczy via TKO (Strikes) at 4:59 in the 1stRound (Pena wins TUF 18 women’s tournament)

1stRound: Pena immediately closes the distance and gets a body lock. She easily takes Rakoczy to the ground. Rakoczy pushes her off an gets back up, but Pena is draped all over her. Pena trips her to the mat. Pena landing solid punches and advances to side control. Pena takes full mount. Big elbows by Pena. It’s a wrap.

Nate Diaz Defeats Gray Maynard via TKO (Punches) at 2:38 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Maynard quickly takes him down with a single-leg. Diaz gets to his feet and throws Maynard to the ground. Diaz stuns him with a left and pounces. He’s giving Maynard the business. How is Maynard still standing? Diaz is clocking him. The assault is finally brought to a halt.
