Former UFC fighter Ulysses Gomez (pictured) collapsed and was rushed to the hospital Friday morning in England while attempting to cut weight for tomorrow’s title bout against Cage Warriors flyweight champion Neil Seery.
Cage Warriors PR director Paul Dollery confirmed Gomez is doing well, but the promotion decided to err on the side of caution in nixing Saturday’s main event.
“Ulysses Gomez v Neil Seery is off. Gomez collapsed while cutting weight; was taken to hospital. He’s OK now but we’ve decided to pull fight,” Dollery posted on his Twitter account. “Gomez still wants to fight, I should add, but he understands and accepts the decision that’s been taken.”
Cage Warriors 62 takes place inside Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle. The bout was to mark Gomez’s promotional debut after being released from the UFC in February.
The co-main event between Wesley Murch and Curt Warburton now gets bumped to the show’s top spot.
