UFC Fight Night 33 might be jumping off right now in Australia, but Friday night has been all about UFC 170 fight announcements thus far. Shortly after Rashad Evans confirmed he was headlining the February 22 festivities against Daniel Cormier, it was reported Demian Maia (pictured) will meet Rory MacDonald in the event.
Both welterweights will be looking to bounce back from losses. Maia was steadily making his way up the 170-pound totem pole until dropping a split decision to former top contender Jake Shields in October. The jiu jitsu ace had won his three bouts prior to the setback, which all took place in the welterweight division after dropping from middleweight.
MacDonald, meanwhile, lost to Robbie Lawler earlier this month via split decision. Most believed he was the heir apparent in the weight class before posting the most disappointing performance of his career. The 24-year-old has owns a 15-2 professional record.
Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada hosts the festivities.
