‘UFC 168: Weidman vs. Silva II’ Live Results and Play-by-Play

“UFC 168: Weidman vs. Silva II” took place Saturday night inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Former middleweight champion Anderson Silva tired to reclaim his throne from Chris Weidman in tonight’s featured attraction. Bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey defended her title against Miesha Tate in the co-main event.

Here are the official results and play-by-play from tonight’s action:

Robert Peralta Defeats Estevan Payan via KO (Punches) at :12 in the 3rdRound

1stRound: Peralta tags him with a quick one-two combination to set up a takdown. Payan fights to his feet, but is still clinched against the fence. Peralta gets another takedown. Payan reverses and ends up in side control. Payan working some active ground-and-pound, particularly short elbows.

5thRound scores it: Payan, 10-9.

2ndRound: Standup battle for the opening two minutes. Peralta lands a heavy leg kick, but gets taken down for his efforts. Payan is once again in side control.

5thRound scores it: Payan, 10-9.

3rdRound: Peralta starts the final round by turning the bout into a slugfest. Payan eats a couple big punches that stagger him. Yves Lavigne steps in to stop Payan from taking anymore damage.

William Macario Defeats Bobby Voelker via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

1stRound: Macario’s hands look sharp early. He’s doing a great job of changing levels. Voelker is bleeding from his nose. Macario is tagging him with the greatest of ease. Voelker eats a big right. Macario is swarming him.

5thRound scores it: Macario, 10-9.

2ndRound: Macario scores a takedown. Voelker gets to his feet, but has blood dripping from his forehead. Macario is clocking him with anything he wants. This seems close to being stopped. Macario is connecting on nearly everything he’s unleashing. Referee Mario Yamasaki calls time to check the cut. Game on. Voelker is coming out with a greater sense of urgency.

5thRound scores it: Macario, 10-9.

3rdRound: Voelker comes out firing, knowing he needs a finish. Macario still looks sharp. Voelker’s face is a bloody mess. Voelker takes a poke to the eye and time is called. Game on. Macario lands a big left hook. He follows up with a standing elbow.

5thRound scores it: Macario, 10-9, and easily runs the table, 30-27.

John Howard Defeats Siyar Bahadruzada via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

1stRound: Howard working leg kicks early. Both are exchanging in the pocket. Bahadruzada has him clinched against the fence and is landing knees to the body and thighs. Howards scores a takedown with a minute on the clock, which is big since this is a very close round. Howard takes his back, but didn’t have his hooks in and Bahadruzada gets free.

5thRound scores it: Howard, 10-9.

2ndRound: They both come out throwing haymakers. Nothing too damaging from either fighter. Pace has slowed quite a bit. Their punches appear to be in slow motion. Howard picks him up, carries him to his corner (a la Matt Hughes) and slams him to the ground. That should secure him the period.

5thRound scores it: Howard, 10-9.

3rdRound: Bahadruzada looks completely gassed, while Howard is clearly the fresher fighter. Howard easily gets a takedown and drops three massive bombs to the dome. He takes Bahadruzada’s back for a moment. Howard takes his back again and will likely ride it out until the final horn.

5thRound scores it: Howard, 10-9, and should win, 30-27.

Dennis Siver Defeats Manny Gamburyan via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

1stRound: Siver looks massive compared to Gamburyan. They come out throwing fire Siver scores a powerful takedown. Gamburyan trying to work an armbar from off his back. They’re back up and trading kicks. Gamburyan gets a takedown, but is a tad careless with his attack and Siver takes his back. Gamburyan is eating some big punches. Gamburyan is now piggybacking him.

5thRound scores it: Siver, 10-9.

2ndRound: Gamburyan ate a right and dropped to the mat for a moment. The Armenian scores a takedown. Gamburyan works some good ground-and-pound. Siver is bleeding from his forehead. Siver kicks him off. Gamburyan tags him with a spinning back kick. Good combo by Siver. Gamburyan picks him up and slams him to the ground.

5thRound scores it: Gamburyan, 10-9.

3rdRound: Gamburyan takes a kick tot he groin and time is called. Game on. Siver quickly gets a takedown. Siver transitions to his back and syncs in a body lock. Siver will likely hold this superior position until the final horn. Gamburyan needs a miracle with 30 ticks remaining.

5thRound scores it: Siver, 10-9, and likely won, 29-28.

Michael Johnson Defeats Gleison Tibau via KO (Punches) at 1:32 in the 2ndRound

1stRound: Tibau lands a solid left. He has Johnson clinched against the cage. Johnson wobbles him with a right hook. He follows up with a body shot. Johnson looks quick. Quick jab by Johnson. Tibau charges forward looking for a takedown to no avail. Close one to score.

5thRound scores it: Johnson, 10-9.

2ndRound: Leg kick by Tibau. Johnson drops him with a left and pounces. A couple punches on the ground and the assault is stopped because Tibau’s eyes rolled to the back of his head.

Uriah Hall Defeats Chris Leben via TKO (Doctor’s Stoppage) at 5:00 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Highly likely this is a loser-leaves-town match. Hall immediately drops him with a flying knee. Leben gets right back up and forges ahead. Hall catches him in the clinch and lands a couple knees to the body. Leben’s face is getting marked up. Hall has a clear speed advantage, but he keeps backing up and crowd is getting anxious. Leben scoring with inside leg kicks. Hall drops him with a right and pounces. Leben is saved by the bell.

Between rounds, Leben asked his corner to stop the fight. Leben clearly said, “I’m done.” Not sure if he’s referring to just this fight or his career. Probably both.

5thRound scores it: Hall, 10-9.

Dustin Poirier Defeats Diego Brandao via TKO (Punches) at 4:54 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Apparently, Brandao was in a car accident that prevented him from training for a couple weeks. That’s why he missed weight by a mile. Question, if a car accident prevented training, then why is the NSAC allowing him to fight? Anyway, they come out fast, but nothing significant landing for either featherweight. Brandao tags him with a body shot. Brandao gets a brief takedown. Brandao plants him on his back again, though Poirier scoots back to his feet. Poirier is flinging haymakers. Brandao is getting clobbered. Brandao drops to the mat and is eating countless bombs. It’s a wrap.

Jim Miller Defeats Fabricio Camoes via Submission (Armbar) at 3:42 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Camoes scores with a knee to the midsection in the clinch and follows up with a left hook as they separate. They are unloading heavy leather, but coming up with air. Camoes misses with a head kick and gets taken down. Miller is now draped on his back. Camoes now takes top position. Miller goes for an armbar from his back. Camoes tried to fend him off, but is forced to cry uncle.

Travis Browne Defeats Johs Barnett via KO (Elbows) at 1:00 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Barnett goes for a takedown, but eats a knee to the stomach and is now taking several nasty elbows to the side of his dome. Barnett is out cold. Referee Yves Lavigne wasn’t paying attention or something, because Barnett took at least three ‘bows while unconscious.

Ronda Rousey Defeats Miesha Tate via Submission (Armbar) :58 in the 3rdRound (Rousey retains UFC bantamweight title)

1stRound: Mario Yamasaki is the third person in the Octagon. No touch of gloves from the ladies – shocker. They come out swining. Rousey drags her to the mat for a moment. Tate eats a knee to the face on the way up. Rousey has her clinched against the cage and is kneeing her thigh. Rousey catches a kick and trips her to the mat. Rousey is standing over her and almost gets caught in an armbar. Tate reverses and takes top position. Rousey has her in a triangle and is softening her up for an armbar.  Tate gets free. She tags the champ with a right. Rousey answers with a right. Tate responds with a big right. Rousey closes the distance and gets a takedown. Tate takes top position. They’re back up. This is crazy exciting. Tate goes for a takedown, but Rousey uses her momentum against her and ends up on top. Very curious why Tate keeps trying to take her down? She should keep it standing…

5thRound scores it: Rousey, 10-9.

2ndRound: Rousey drags her to the ground, but Tate lands some crazy upkicks. Rousey was stunned by those. Rousey takes her down again for a moment. She gets Tate down again. Rousey uses her judo skills to toss her to the mat. Tate almost reverses, but Rousey now gets full mount. Rousey slaps on an armbar, though can’t finish. Tate is caught in a mounted triangle.

5thRound scores it: Rousey, 10-9.

3rdRound: They both still look fresh. Although, Rousey is the aggressor. She charges forward and clinches Tate against the cage. Rousey catches her in an armbar. Game over.

Tate extends her hand to congratulate her, but Rousey turns away. Crowd boos Rousey.

Chris Weidman Defeats Anderson Silva via TKO (Broke Leg) at 1:16 in the 2ndRound (Weidman retains UFC middleweight title)

1stRound: Herb Dean is the third man inside the Octagon. Weidman gets a brief takedown within 40 seconds. He has Silva clinched against the cage, but is eating knees to the midsection. Weidman hurt him with a right and is raining down punches from the top. That appeared close to getting stopped, but Silva may have weathered the storm. Weidman is in Silva’s full guard and unloading elbows. Weidman working some good ground-and-pound. Silva lands a couple good punches from his back. Hammer fists by Silva from the bottom. Heavy elbow by Wiedman. Big right by Weidman.

5thRound scores it: Weidman, 10-9.

2ndRound: Weidman is bleeding from his nose. Silva starting to open things up. Silva unleashes a leg kick and fractures his left shin. Weidman checked it and it snapped in half. It’s over. Remember Corey Hill? NASTY.
