Bad news, the light heavyweight shootout between former champion Rashad Evans and Daniel Cormier is no longer headlining UFC 170. Good news, they are now co-headlining the February 22 show because bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey (pictured) will be defending her throne against Sara McMann in the event.
UFC president Dana White made the announcement during Saturday’s UFC 168 post-fight press conference, less than an hour after Rousey successfully defended her crown against bitter rival Miesha Tate.
Tonight’s victory bumped Rousey’s professional record to a perfect 8-0, all ending via armbar. Her last two bouts were of the UFC title defense variety.
Speaking of unblemished resumes, McMann has won all seven of her MMA bouts. She was last seen in April posting a TKO over Sheila Gaff in her big league debut.
Cat Zingano, who is the division’s official top contender, won’t be able to return to training until March after undergoing knee surgery in May. If all goes according to plan, Zingano will get next dibs once she returns.
Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada hosts the festivities.
