It is being reported that up-and-coming UFC light middleweight fighter Thiago Silva will be forced to withdraw from his bout against Lyoto Machida at UFC 89. Sources close to the fighter have said that Silva has injured his back during one of American Top Team’s intense workouts, which were preparing him for the most important fight of his career.
FiveOuncesOfPain.com was the first to report the injury, and they confirmed the report with sources close to Silva.
It was to be a very important fight for both fighters, who both possess perfect 13-0 records, in determining their standing within the UFC’s deepest division.
UFC 89 will be held on October 15th in Birmingham, England. With the card more than a month out, it is possible that the UFC will be able to find a viable replacement to take on Machida to co-headline the event.
