On Tuesday, it was announced an undisclosed injury has forced Bobby Green out of his UFC 169 scrap against Abel Trujillo. Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner (pictured) has agreed to serve as a substitute on February 1.
Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey hosts the Super Bowl Saturday festivities.
Varner is looking to bounce back from a split decision defeat to Gleison Tibau in August. “C-4” has won half of his four fights since returning to the UFC in May 2012.
Trujillo is fresh off this month’s destruction of Roger Bowling, which was an immediate rematch of their no contest in August after Trujillo landed some illegal knees. The Blackzilian’s lone loss in his last eight outings came against undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The 155-pound affair will likely appear in the night’s prelims.
