The UFC’s debut in Australia could see a change of headliners after UFC President Dana White told MMAJunkie Radio on Friday night that the main event “might change,” Wanderlei Silva is currently on tap to face Yoshihiro Akiyama in the featured bout, but after the recent string of bad luck on the injury front, the fight could be moved to fill another card.
Silva is looking to return after losing a decision to Rich Franklin at UFC 99, it was his 5th loss in his last six attempts. The Brazilian is also fully recovered from facial tissue surgery, a procedure that will strengthen the skin on his mug to prevent it from getting cut.
Speaking of decisions, Akiyama took a one over Alan Belcher in his Octagon debut at UFC 100 after fighting his first 13 professional fights in Japan. He is one of the world’s best 185-pounders that people don’t know about.
A Silva/Akiyama main event was chosen for down under because of both fighters’ star-power oversees, however drastic times calls for desperate measures and the Octagon is gonna have to put on some more convincing W’s to help erase some of the dubious decisions that have been handed out on recent UFC cards.
Between Brock Lesnar’s illness, Lyoto Machida & Anderson Silva’s surgeries as well as Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s staph infection, the UFC has a lot of word to do heading into the New Year.
Let the games begin…
