With no major mixed martial arts show planned for another nine days, World Series of Fighting decided to spice up this rather slow MMA news day by extending a unique challenge to Bellator MMA – WSOF vs. Bellator in a star-studded 10-fight pay-per-view extravaganza.
“The challenge is out! #WSOF vs. @BellatorMMA in a 10-fight PPV, winner takes all. What do you think, who wins?” WSOF tweeted Monday.
“Winner takes all”? What exactly does ALL mean?
“[WSOF matchmaker Ali Abdelaziz] will put those specifics outs shortly!” WSOF responded.
WSOF didn’t stop at merely throwing out a random challenge, the upstart promotion also went to the trouble of arranging the fight card. The show’s main event will showcase a “superfight” between kickboxing sensation Tyrone Spong and Bellator’s most mainstream name, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (pictured).
Bellator officials did not respond to our messages at the time of publication.
Neither organization has dabbled in the pay-per-view pond. However, Bellator was going to take a stab at it in November until Tito Ortiz broke his neck and was forced out of the featured attraction against Rampage.
Bellator had to change that card to a Spike TV broadcast.
Here are the matchups WSOF is proposing:
(WSOF fighters on left vs. Bellator fighters on right)
David Branch vs. Brett Cooper
Jon Fitch vs. Rick Hawn
Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Daniel Straus
Justin Gaethje vs. Michael Chandler or Eddie Alvarez
Rousimar Palhares vs. Douglas Lima
Yushin Okami vs. Alexander Shlemenko
Marlon Moraes vs. Eduardo Dantas
Andrei Arlovski vs. Vitaly Minakov
Anthony Johnson vs. Attila Vegh
Tyrone Spong vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson
