Nobody wants to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov, particularly Nate Diaz (pictured) – that is if you were to ask UFC president Dana White.
When a fan hit White up on Twitter Saturday and pleaded for him to arrange a tango between the undefeated Nurmagomedov and Diaz, White claimed Mr. 209 had already declined the scrap.
“Nate turned the fight down,” White tweeted.”Nobody wants to fight Khabib.”
Nurmagomedov owns a perfect 21-0 professional record, with his past five tangos coming inside the Octagon. The 25-year-old was last seen in September posting a unanimous decision over Pat Healy.
He was slated to face Gilbert Melendez at UFC 170, but the bout fell through for undisclosed reasons. White then said they were scouring their lightweight roster for a suitable opponent to meet Nurmagomedov in the February 22 event.
However, you can cross Diaz’s name off that list because he wants none of Nurmagomedov. Or does he…
“@danawhite @ufc are full of s*** I didn’t turn down anything …” Diaz responded when catching wind of White’s claim that he dodged the up-and-comer.
Diaz collected a much-needed win in November by TKO’ing Gray Maynard to snap his two-fight skid. The former 155-pound top contender is victorious in four of his past six outings.
UFC 170 takes place inside Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
