Many people were wondering what was up with Tito Ortiz’ black eye heading into UFC 106. Following his split decision loss to Forrest Griffin, Ortiz explained what happened by saying that he had a “cracked skull” that he suffered during training.

As was the case in many of Ortiz’ recent fights, he couldn’t keep up the pace for the entire fight and now we know why.

“That’s what you call ring rust and being tired,” said Ortiz. “I was tired, the wind was sucked out of me … I gave it my all man. I thought I won.”

Ortiz also admitted that he had injured his back again and that also hampered his training which caused him to look completely gassed by the 3rd and deciding round.

It’ll be interesting to see if the UFC books a rubber match between the two fighters as the previous two fights have been decided by somewhat controversial decisions.
