For a card that has yet to be officially announced, the UFC’s March 23 show in Brazil already has a main event.
According to Tatame.com, a light heavyweight rematch between former champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (pictured) and Dan Henderson will headline the gig.
Shogun snapped a career-long two-fight losing skid by knocking out James Te Huna in December. The 32-year-old has won just four of his past 9 fights.
If this report holds true, that means Henderson has finally struck a contract extension with the UFC. The former Strikeforce champ entered free agency after November’s KO defeat to Vitor Belfort.
The bout marked his third straight loss.
Of course, Shogun and Hendo met in an instant classic in 2011 at UFC 139. Hendo walked away with a unanimous decision victory that evening.
Ginasio Nelio Dias in Natal, Brazil is expected to host the festivities. No word if this card will be made available via Fox Sports 1 or UFC Fight Pass.
Here are the athletes currently expected to perform in jiu jitsu country:
Rony Jason vs. Steven Siler
Ronny Markes vs. Thiago Santos
Fabio Maldonado vs. Gian Villante
Jussier Formiga vs. Scott Jorgensen
Cezar Ferreira vs. C.B. Dollaway
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Dan Henderson
