Justin Bieber has supported the UFC in the past, and today UFC president Dana White (pictured) showed his support for Biebs following Thursday’s DUI arrest in Florida. While White is the furthest thing from being a Belieber – unlike former UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva – White realizes how difficult it must be for a filthy rich teenager to live in a fishbowl.
“Not to defend him, but how much money does that kid have?” White asked during today’s media scrum in Chicago. “Imagine if you had a zillion dollars when you were 19. I’d be dead already. Forget it, I wouldn’t see 21.
“Imagine having that kind of money and fame and all the things that go along with it. It’s got to be hard to keep it together, especially if you don’t have the right people around you, too.”
Bieber has been the world’s biggest pop star for the past several years. However, there have been plenty of growing pains along the way – speeding in residential streets, alcohol and drug use, spitting and egging neighbors, etc. (all alleged).
White signifies one of America’s best rags to riches stories, but he was twice as old as Bieber when he started stockpiling money. The now-44-year-old White is thankful he didn’t have to go through the public scrutiny Bieber does on a daily basis at such a young age.
“I know what I was like when I was 19, and I was broke,” White said in closing. “Flat broke, and if there were cameras and videos and social media and all that stuff, it’s tough to be those guys. You look at it and say, ‘Oh, poor Bieber. He’s got a zillion dollars and all the chicks in the world want him and he’s got all this stuff,’ but there’s a lot of headaches that go along with that.”
Mo money mo problems – right, Biggie?
Bieber was charged with drunken driving, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license after police caught him street racing his Lamborghini against a Ferrari. He reportedly admitted at the police station that he had consumed alcohol, prescription drugs and smoked weed prior to getting behind the wheel.
Bieber was a guest of and sat next to White at UFC 132 in July 2011.
