Well, you knew it was only a matter of time. During Monday’s media luncheon in Los Angeles, UFC president Dana White revealed “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” coaches Wanderlei Silva (pictured) and Chael Sonnen engaged in an all-out brawl on the set.
“Wanderlei and Chael fought. Just today. They literally fought,” White shared. “While they were fighting one of Wanderlei’s guys sucked-punched Chael.
“It went on for awhile. Crazy s*** happened there.”
White claimed the crew is still cleaning up the mess the two caused from their impromptu scrap.
White didn’t say what ignited the rumble, but it doesn’t take much to connect the dots – Sonnen has a knack for getting under people’s skin, while Silva has one of the shortest fuses in the game.
Sonnen and Silva will fight in a sanctioned bout once filming wraps on the reality show.
It’s no secret Silva and Sonnen despise each other. They have been exchanging pleasantries for years, with Uncle Chael turning up the heat an extra notch since he submitted Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in August.
During his post-fight celebratory speech, Sonnen called Silva a pile of “crap,” among many other things, to try and goad “The Axe Murderer” into a fight. Silva responded by going after Sonnen in September at the Olympia Expo in Las Vegas.
The bitter rivals had to be separated before things got nasty.
Their beef dates back to even before this series of events.
White’s story comes on the heels of the UFC’s announcement that TUF Brazil will be available exclusively on UFC Fight Pass. The season debuts March 9 at 10PM ET/7PM PT, after UFC Fight Pass’ free trial period ends.
Each new episode will then be available every Sunday during the same time slot.
