After some back-and-forth debate, the UFC has decided the heavyweight top contender scrap between Fabricio Werdum (pictured) and Travis Browne will headline UFC on FOX 11.
UFC president Dana White confirmed the news Thursday in New Jersey.
While the critical shootout was initially announced earlier this month, White wanted to see if they could secure a more mainstream matchup to take top billing in the primetime television show. Apparently not…
Werdum was slated for next dibs at Cain Velasquez’s heavyweight crown. However, with Velasquez expected to be sidelined until December with a bum shoulder, Werdum was forced to take another tango to prove his mettle. The jiu jitsu specialist will also be riding a three-fight winning streak into the bout.
Browne, meanwhile, capped off a spectacular 2013 campaign by knocking out Josh Barnett at UFC 168. The win marked his third straight, with “Hapa’s” prior two coming against former top contenders Alistair Overeem and Gabriel Gonzaga.
The April 19 takes place inside Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
FOX broadcasts the main card live starting at 8PM ET/5PM PT.
Here is the card’s current roster:
