Former UFC middleweight champion Evan Tanner has been reportedly been found dead after having gone missing during a camping trip in California over the weekend. TMZ.com is reporting that the 37-year-old went into the desert near San Diego last Friday by himself. That same day, Tanner sent a text message to a friend that he was out of water and needed help. A rescue team was immediately sent out to search for Tanner, and the search ended yesterday when a body was found in the area where rescue workers were searching.
Tanner wrote on his blog last month that he was planning on heading into the desert to push himself and his body to its limits. Tanner wrote, “Treasure hunting and lost gold, and my own insatiable appetite for adventure and exploration. I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment could cost me my life.”
Tanner lost his last fight against Kendall Grove in June, concluding what many thought would be the end of his successful MMA career.
